Suicide Prevention & the Importance of Sleep: Supporting Young Adults Struggling with Mental Health Challenges

Francis Auditorium, High Point University, One University Parkway, High Point, NC 27268 | November 05, 2018

Our physicians will address two important issues young adults may face in college: lack of sleep and thoughts of suicide. Dr. Jason Peck will cover sleep disorders and the impact of reduced sleep on the emotional, cognitive, and physical self. Dr. Alyson Kuroski-Mazzei will address the very serious issue of suicide and what we can all do to help students who might be struggling with mental health issues. They will:

  • Identify 3 different sleep disorders and how they can affect students
  • Describe how sleep impacts mental illness
  • Identify 3 risk factors for suicide and 3 suicide prevention strategies
  • Describe how mental illness and suicide are often linked, and how to recognize warning signs

HopeWay would like to thank High Point University for hosting us for this AHEC event.
